STUDENTS ARE BROADWAY BOUND

SYTA YOUTH FOUNDATION AND DISNEY THEATRICAL GROUP HOST STUDENTS ON BROADWAY

WASHINGTON, D.C., March 17, 2017 – The SYTA Youth Foundation (SYF) and Disney Theatrical Group hosted three groups of 100 deserving and underprivileged students from Pablo Casals Middle School 181, the Education Through Music program in New York City and Martin Luther King School 6 for an exciting day on Broadway for the SYF Broadway Bound 2017 program.

The students experienced The Lion King, Broadway’s Award Winning Best Musical, on March 1, 2017. For most of these students, it was their first time attending a Broadway show. Special thanks to Applebee’s Apple Metro for providing lunch.

The Disney Theatrical Group donated the 100 tickets and gave the students access to the TDF Stage Doors program. Stage Doors is a project-based arts education program that provides students with a meaningful introduction to live theatre.

“Our students were able to experience a Broadway show and this was a truly magical day for ALL. Thank you for making it possible SYF!,” said Assistant Principal of MLK School No. 6 Niki Clemons.

“It was a new experience that opened my eyes to different cultures,” said Brianna a student at Pablo Casals Middle School 181.

“As schools narrow their focus on improving performance on math and reading standardized tests, they often have difficulty justifying taking students out of the classroom for real-life experiences not related to improving test scores,” said SYF Associate Director Emily Milligan. “The opportunity to experience a Broadway show gives students insight into the arts that they might not otherwise receive.”
