Student Stories

“The world is a book, and those who do not travel read only a page.” — St. Augustine

Students are why we do what we do. Each deserves a chance to experience the world. To gain confidence by doing something daring. To see life in a new light. What travel can do for students is nearly immeasurable, and for most, it's also unimaginable. But dreams do come true. Here are some of the stories that show how travel changes young lives for good.

  • Adrian

Adrian’s life was turned upside down at the age of seven. Following several family tragedies, he was sent to live with relatives he had never met. Without a Road Scholarship from SYF, Adrian never would have had the educational experience of a lifetime. Read Adrian's story. Read More
  • Sabina

In her winning Ripley Hunter essay, Sabina reflected on her ascent up the Alborz Mountains at the age of seven and how her travels changed her understanding of human determination. Read Sabina's story. Read More

What are teachers saying?

  • Thank you again for your generous support of my students. The educational tour we took was my very first, and now I cannot wait to take another. I know I will be searching for financial support in the future, and want to ensure I have the opportunity to come to your organization. You are one of the very few that actually helped, and I cannot express how grateful the students are, as am I.

Kristen Goree, Buckingham Charter Magnet High School

  • I extend the sincerest of thanks to you for allowing us to see the fires kindled in the eyes of our students.

Lisa Faulkner-Jones, Charles Hart Middle School

  • I see what SYF has done for my students and it overwhelms me and I thank you.

    Roger Duran, Jefferson High School

  • Thank you for awarding a gift to Travis and therefore our entire band.

    D. VandeGiessen, Band Director
